Camping Sous Les Étoiles Normandie, "Under The Stars", nestled in the quaint village of Saint-Martin-des-Besaces, Calvados, is a charming family-operated campground that caters to both campers and caravan enthusiasts. Our idyllic location is an ideal base for immersing yourself in the breathtaking landscapes, savoring exquisite cheeses, indulging in crisp cider, and, of course, relishing the renowned Calvados. While we are the third generation of owners, we've had the pleasure of hosting the original proprietors, Barry & Barbara, who graciously shared their insights during their delightful stay with us.
Once a working farmstead, the grounds (over 5 hectares) have been re-designed with 50 large individually marked pitches, hedges, apple trees and borders overlooking lush green fields. The farmhouse, which has been tastefully renovated but retains its country charm with pleasant views.
To the North of Saint-Martin-des-Besaces are the D-Day Landing Beaches, where they celebrate the anniversaries of the landings every June. Bayeux with its medieval center contains cobbled streets, half-timbered houses and the towering, Norman-Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. It also is the home of the famous tapestry.
To the South is the historic and pretty village of Domfront, established in the 6th century and within Normandie's Regional Natural Park a protected area of forest and bocage.
To the East in Suisse Normand (little Switzerland) is Clécy with a miniature railway and the River Orne for canoeing and fishing.
To the West lies the breathtaking Mont Saint-Michel, a small island off the coast of Normandy, that is famous for its magnificent Romanesque-Gothic abbey buildings and beaches along the Cotentin shoreline.
Nestled within the village, you’ll find a captivating museum dedicated to the liberation of the Bocage Region. This insightful establishment offers a glimpse into the area's rich history, showcasing artifacts and exhibits that highlight the significant events that shaped the region. It's a perfect stop for history buffs and curious visitors eager to learn more about the local heritage.
For those in search of adventure, the Viaduc de la Souleuvre awaits. This partially demolished railway viaduct spans the stunning Souleuvre River in La Ferrière-Harang and has become a renowned spot for bungee jumping. Thrill-seekers can experience the exhilarating rush of free-falling while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
We welcome domestic pets at the campsite, provided they are kept on a lead at all times. For your convenience, there is a veterinary practice located nearby, equipped to handle necessary vaccinations and worming treatments for your pet’s return to the UK.

I have spent over 30 years in the film industry, owning and running a successful post-production company and working on a wide range of productions, including major big-budget films. During this time I built extensive experience in management and operations. The work required organisation, technical expertise, teamwork, and creative problem-solving — skills that continue to influence the way the campsite is run today.
Away from my professional career, I have a long-standing passion for motorsport. I successfully raced a Jaguar 6-litre XJS and went on to become British Champion in 2003. Motorsport taught me the value of precision, preparation, and determination.
Today, as Campsite Owner and Manager, I bring this experience and enthusiasm to ensure guests enjoy a friendly, well-run and welcoming place to stay.

I have spent much of my career working in the hospitality industry, gaining experience in a variety of roles from front-of-house service to Catering Manager. Throughout that time I developed a strong passion for customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
My focus is always on making sure visitors feel relaxed, well looked after, and able to fully enjoy their stay. Whether it’s helping coordinate the campsite or managing the restaurant, I enjoy being involved in all aspects of the guest experience.
